On Monday, May 12, 2025, a delegation comprising 29 students and four faculty members from health-related programmes at South Dakota State University (SDSU), USA, paid a courtesy call on Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The visiting team is in Ghana as part of an academic exchange programme, with the main objective of shadowing health professionals at the KNUST Hospital and other health facilities in the Ashanti Region. Their focus will be on consulting rooms, as well as observational practice in the pharmacy, wards, and laboratories.

Prof. Greg Heiberger, Associate Dean of Academics and Student Success in the College of Natural Sciences at SDSU and leader of the delegation, expressed his appreciation for the warm reception. He emphasized the team's enthusiasm about being at KNUST and the opportunity to deepen the existing partnership between the two institutions. He also shared his excitement about the weeks ahead and looked forward to a rewarding experience for both students and faculty.

Welcoming the group on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and University Management, Professor Daniel Duah expressed his delight at the growing collaboration between KNUST and SDSU. He provided an overview of the university and emphasized the vital role of academic partnerships in driving mutual institutional growth. He noted with satisfaction the increase in the number of visiting students - from 13 during the previous exchange to 29 this year - attributing the rise to the success and positive outcomes of the earlier cohort.

Professor Duah conveyed his optimism that the current group would also have a meaningful and impactful experience.

Also present at the meeting were Dr. Ebenezer Asamoah Nyarko, Senior Hospital Pharmacist and coordinator of the team’s activities from the health side; Mrs. Yvonne Baiden, Senior Assistant Registrar and team coordinator from the IPO; Mr. Livingstone Agbenorxevi, Assistant Collaborations and Partnerships Officer; Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communications Officer; and Mr. Karikari Gyimah Ankoana, Inbound/Outbound Exchange Officer at the IPO.
