On Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, a delegation from Tongmyong University, South Korea, led by Mr. Kang Kyung Su, the 15th Chairman of the Tongmyong Educational Foundation, paid a courtesy call on Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The delegation also included Dr. Eshetu Tefera Bekele, Assistant Professor at the Busan International College, and Mr. Kim Joo Young, Administrator and Marketing Officer.
Mr. Kang Kyung Su highlighted the purpose of their visit, expressing Tongmyong University’s enthusiasm about entering into a formal partnership with KNUST. He provided an overview of the university’s history, academic strengths, and global outlook, emphasizing its commitment to expanding international collaborations. While Tongmyong University has established partnerships across Asia, Europe, and the Americas, he noted that this MoU with KNUST marks their first collaboration with an African institution. He reaffirmed the university’s keen interest in promoting staff and student exchange, joint research initiatives, and industry-driven collaborations as part of the new partnership.
Mr. Kim Joo Young highlighted the unique offerings of the Busan International College, a truly integrated culture inclusive campus, which currently hosts over 1,500 international students. He explained that the college provides seven diverse academic programmes, including Global Business, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Engineering, all taught in English to cater to its international student community. He also emphasized the availability of competitive scholarships that make these programmes both accessible and appealing to students from around the world.
Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Daniel Duah shared insights into KNUST’s rich history and institutional structure, highlighting its collegiate system, which operates across the main campus, the Obuasi campus, and the Institute of Distance Learning. He underscored the university’s longstanding reputation for academic excellence and described the signing of the MoU as the start of a promising partnership that aligns with KNUST’s internationalization agenda while creating new opportunities for knowledge exchange, innovation, and cross-cultural collaboration.
Also present at the meeting were Ms. Ernestine Oheneba Danso, Collaborations and Partnerships Officer; Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communications Officer; and Mr. Karikari Gyimah Ankoana, Inbound and Outbound Exchange Officer, all from the International Programmes Office.
