On Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, a delegation from Tongmyong University, South Korea, led by Mr. Kang Kyung Su, Chairman of the Tongmyong Educational Foundation, paid a courtesy call on Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), at the Council Chamber.
The delegation also included Professor Eshetu Tefera Bekele, Assistant Professor at the Busan International College of Global Business, and Mr. Kim Joo Young, Administrator and Marketing Officer.
Accompanying the delegation was Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), who highlighted that KNUST currently has only one partnership in South Korea. He explained that discussions with Tongmyong University began several months ago, driven by the university’s strategic interest in establishing a strong and lasting presence in Africa.
Professor Daniel Duah emphasised that the purpose of the visit was formalize the relationship through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which sought to promote research collaboration, staff and student exchanges, scholarships, and other academic partnerships between the two institutions.
Mr. Kang Kyung Su expressed Tongmyong University’s deep commitment to ensuring the success of this collaboration. He shared the university’s vision of working towards a globally inclusive academic environment, noting their efforts to secure UN-affiliated “train-the-trainer” programmes that would enhance global integration and inclusion, creating a welcoming environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
Welcoming the delegation, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, expressed the university’s readiness to embrace the partnership and reaffirmed KNUST’s commitment to internationalization. She emphasized the importance of such collaborations in training globally minded professionals capable of addressing complex challenges in an interconnected world.
The signing of the MoU was the climax of the Tongmyong University delegation’s visit to KNUST.
