On Thursday, 11th September 2025, Huawei Technologies Ghana paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, to explore collaboration opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI) and smart classroom technology.
The meeting, facilitated by the Confucius Institute and International Programmes Office (IPO), was introduced by Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of IPO, who outlined the purpose of the engagement as a step toward building sustainable partnerships between industry and academia.
The Huawei delegation was led by Mr. Mark Qin, Director of the Enterprise Business Group (EBG), and Mr. William Wang, Senior Solutions Manager. They reaffirmed Huawei’s commitment to advancing research, innovation, and digital skills development in Ghanaian universities.
Discussions centred on introducing AI-powered smart classrooms to enhance teaching and learning, as well as broader initiatives such as ICT talent cultivation, smart campus systems, and advanced digital tools for scientific research.
The Vice-Chancellor welcomed the delegation and commended Huawei’s interest in supporting KNUST’s vision of becoming a hub for cutting-edge research, innovation, and global competitiveness.
The meeting laid the foundation for a strong partnership aimed at equipping the University community with modern digital tools and solutions to thrive in the knowledge-driven future
Present at the meeting included Mr. Benjamin Boampong Owusu, Registrar; Mr. Charles Nsiah, Finance Officer; Prof. Jerry John Kponyo, Dean of the Quality Assitant and Planning Office; and Prof. Su Zibo, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute.
The IPO team present included Mr. Karikari Gyimah Ankoana, Inbound-Outbound Exchange Officer, and Mr. Attah-Nyame Esampong, Visibility and Communication Officer.
