From KNUST to L'Aquila University: Twelve postgraduate students set for exchange programme in Italy

On Thursday, October 2, 2025, a team of twelve students, compring of three (3) PhD candidates and nine (9) Mphil Stdents from the Department of Physics paid a courtesy call on Professor Esmeranda Manful, Vice Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) ahead of their departure for a 10-month exchange programme in Mathematical and Computational Physics at University of L'Aquila, Italy.

Professor Manful congratulated the postgraduate students on their selection, describing it as both a privilege and a responsibility. She encouraged the students to remain disciplined, embrace cultural diversity, and make the most of the opportunities ahead of them. The exchange programme, she added, was a gateway to broader academic cooperation between KNUST and L'Aquila University.

She then took the students through a formal pre-departure briefing. The students were Ernest Adonu, Abdul Aziz Wumpini Fuseini, Michael Otabil, Joseph Owusu, Eugene Adomako Mensah, Alex Hammah, Ellen Sarpong, Jane Konadu Bonsu, Abraham Gyamfi, David Ansi, Lartey C., and Isaac Monny.

David Ansi, Collins Lartey, and Isaac Monny are PhD candidates, while the remaining students are pursuing MPhil degrees. The group, who will be in Italy until July 20, 2026, are expected to engage in rigorous academic work while also serving as ambassadors for KNUST.

She also commended Dr. Henry Martin, the coordinator of the programme and his deputy, Dr. Henry Quarshie, for their continual dedication to ensuring the success of the programme, noting that such collaborations placed KNUST on the global stage.

Also present at the meeting were Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong and Miss Emmanuella Larweh of the International Programmes Office, who joined in wishing the students success on their academic journey abroad.
