On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Professor Lydia Thompson, a faculty member in the Department of Art & Art History at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, paid a courtesy visit to Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
During the visit, Professor Samuel Nortey of KNUST’s Department of Industrial Art recalled his previous engagement at UNC Charlotte about two years ago, where he met Professor Thompson. Their shared interests in the arts and academic collaboration sparked a promising dialogue, which has since led to this reciprocal visit.
Professor Thompson is spending a week at KNUST to familiarize herself with the Department of Industrial Art, interact with students and faculty, and explore avenues for collaboration. She expressed her admiration for the department’s work and highlighted the striking similarities between the two institutions’ art programmes. She noted that her interest in partnership had been further strengthened, especially in the area of mutual exchange and academic collaboration.
Professor Daniel Duah warmly welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed KNUST’s strong commitment to international cooperation. He emphasized the university’s strategic focus on three key areas: student exchange, faculty exchange, and joint research. He underscored the value of such partnerships in training globally competitive graduates and assured the delegation of IPO’s full support in facilitating the collaboration.
Also present were Mr. Livingstone Agbenorxevi, Assistant Collaborations and Partnerships Officer, and Mr. Attah-Nyame Essampong, Visibility and Communications Officer, both from the International Programmes Office.
